Sunscreen for your hair?

Does my hair need sunscreen?

We all know the obvious, our skin ages and gets sun damage from UV rays.

One might think that our scalp is the only cause for concern when lathering up our sunscreen on a hot and sunny day. However, the most evolved person knows that even on a cloudy day we’re actually even more at risk because we do not feel the heat beating down, thus causing even more damage than a sunny day.

But what about our actual hair? The strands that may fall long or short, are they susceptible to sun damage?

The answer in short is a big huge YES!

The sun and UV rays can burn and damage our hair whether it be our own or alternative hair (wigs or extensions).

Aside from heat damage that is one and the same that you might have with using hot tools - it makes sense right?! - the sun can also mess up the toner and color used. So, if you have colored or chemically treated hair, this causes oxidation and your gorgeous highlights will also get brassy much faster than it would if you were using protection.

The good news is, help is at hand with many hairsprays offering UV protectants you can preserve the life and color of your hair, pushing off that color appointment won't be so terrible and your hair will stay healthy and soft for much longer.
