Hi and welcome back to the wig diaries: your blog for all things hair and wigs. Today I wanted to shine some light on hair loss and how it can be prevented. Here are five simple and easy ways to prevent hair loss, protecting your soft and smooth hair:

1. Silk pillowcase -

This is one that is an easy fix, but before you go and buy any pillowcase, look for one that gives you a “Momme” count to ensure you’re getting the real deal. I would recommend looking for a case with at least 19 momme. This prevents friction that can cause hair to break and fall out. The naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial material is also great for your skin! It prevents wrinkles and breakouts and to top it off hair products and skincare doesn’t get as easily transferred to your pillowcase - means more on your hair and skin doing what you need it to do.

Here is one on Amazon that has 22 momme that I personally recommend to help out with this (it’s also on sale!)!

2. Use a shampoo that contains Argan oil:

Moroccan Argan oil comes from the kernels of the Argan tree in Morocco. Argan oil hydrates the hair and scalp (more hydration = less breakage). It also is an anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant that can help with and lessen any skin conditions of the scalp that can lead to hair loss.

Luckily, our new Hair Cleanser which contains argan oil can help hydrate and protect your hair from further breakage and prevent hair loss (you can get 15% off with the code HOLIDAY when you buy 2 or more!).

3. Detangle your hair when it’s dry:

When your hair is wet, it is more prone to breakage. To avoid this, make sure you brush before you wash your hair. This is a simple (and free) trick that can help prevent much more severe damage down the line.

4. Use a hair hydrating product:

After washing and conditioning your hair, try to use a hair moisturizer. This will help retain more moisture, keeping your hair healthy and less prone to breakage.

Our fan-favorite, Just Like Silk Hair Moisturizer can help protect your hair by keeping it moist, preventing any further breakage post-wash (you can get 15% off with the code HOLIDAY when you buy 2 or more!).

5. Don’t tie your hair up in a ponytail when wet:

When your hair is wet and when you’re sleeping, placing your hair into a ponytail places a lot of pressure on your hair follicles and can lead to hair damage over time. The best alternative I recommend to my clients would be to tie their hair in a simple braid. This will place less pressure on the follicles and keep those strands together!

While these are not proven to help with any medical conditions that are causing hair loss I would recommend for anyone with hair try practicing these healthy hair habits.

Which trick will you try first?
